Yes, I can't agree more. This album has my vote for Canadian album of =
the year. Some of the best production values I've heard recently. I =
featured Brian on Atlantic Ceilidh last week and had a great chat about =
music and composing. Brian's touring band features Pat O'Gorman, =
whistles, flutes and pipes; Julie Schryer on piano; James Stevens on =
fiddle and guitars; Sarah Featherstone on harp and fiddle and Mark =
O'Sullivan on fiddle. There'll also be a couple of songs from Brian I =
should imagine

Occasionally a new traditional music recording really stirs my soul - =
Lucky me to get a copy of Brian Pickell's new CD . The recording =
consists of mainly Canadian style fiddle tune arrangements and a couple =
of songs as well. I can't say enough about how incredibly good this =
recording is in so many aspects - superb musicianship all around, great =
arrangements, and absolutely wonderful tunes, well recorded. - I thought =
that some of these tunes must be traditional, but no Brian composed the =
entire works! The tune melodies are really catchy - with interesting =
hooks that become unforgettable. I find myself doodling some of these =
tunes in my head off and on during the day. There is a mega waltz medley =
that is worth the price of the CD alone, and there is a lot of music on =
the recording - 33 of his own tunes, played by 20 musicians, including =
10 superb fiddlers. The music is all original material, but I have no =
doubt that a lot of it is destined to stand the test of time and become =
part of our Canadian traditional music culture for the ages. =
Congratulations Brian! He is having his CD release concert at the =
Flying Cloud Folk Club (The Tranzac Club) on Oct. 20th. In Toronto. I =
urge all trad music lovers to come out and hear for yourselves his new =
and wonderful music.
