"My guess is that not a lot of promotors and festival directors would have

the time or the inclination to download songs from websites to listen to

material... a CD in hand has a better chance of being listened to in the car

or in spare moments, or passed around for other opinions;"

And from me: I will not spend time checking websites for music samples but
it has nothing to do with being such a busy Artistic

Director of a small bluegrass festival. It has to do with what's on the CD
and who really played it. I received a submission

several years ago from a band I'd heard live and they suddenly sounded twice
as polished as they had a few months earlier.

There seemed to be a few extra pickers on the thing, and that turned out to
be the case. The CD information listed the

extra bodies in tiny print, but that kind of info generally does not appear
on websites. What the band was actually pushing was a more polished and
professional

6-piece band, than the 4-piece they expected me and others to hire. Anyone
has the right to "augment" the sound of a group, but not

if it smacks of false advertising. This experience has made me a lot more
cautious.

And as James mentioned, a CD in hand can be listened to anywhere so there's
a great deal more flexibility there.

Sound regards,

Laurie Mills, Calgary.
