I am both humbled and honoured to have shared the Hugh's Room stage recently
with some of the most wonderful singer-songwriters and musicians our country
has to offer. We gathered to honour the memory and music of someone we
adored and respected. The "Celebrating the Music of Colleen Peterson"
benefit concert was a major success due to the dedication and talents of
many people. I would like to use the Maplepost forum to express heartfelt
thanks on behalf of Colleen's sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bob
Richardson, Mother, Kaye Thomson and myself, to all that have given a new
life to Colleen's music.

To Tannis Slimmon, Nancy Simmonds, Georgette Fry, Chris MacLean, Sylvia
Tyson, Caitlin Hanford, Gwen Swick and Cindy Church; to Katherine Wheatley,
Rebecca Campbell, Brenda Lewis and Suzie Vinnick, thank you for bringing a
new voice to the music, sharing your time and talent, personal stories and
interpretations of the songs that spoke to your hearts; thank you to the
fabulous 'supporting cast' of Anne Lindsay on violin, Jack Walker on dobro,
Randy Kempf on bass and Wendell Ferguson on guitar. Your spontaneity,
technical expertise and professional ability to interpret the music with
such sensitivity, was a beautiful thing. Thank you to Richard Flohil for
being our MC; To Lisa Weitz, Richard, Anthony, Holmes and all the wonderful
staff at Hugh's Room for making the pre-planning and actual night of
performance a success; to Colin Puffer, Dave Lang and Anne Keillor for the
fabulous job on sound, you are all such a pleasure to work with; to Julia
Philips for hospitality and looking after all the little details; for all
the behind-the-scenes work from members of the 'Friends of Colleen' of
Peterborough; thank you to Javier my hubbier... for keeping me grounded.

Thank you to Sylvia Tyson for donating the beautiful painting, "Circle
Singers" for our silent auction. (The painting alone raised $800.) Thank
you to all our corporate sponsors: CIBC, EMI Music Canada, The Investors
Group, The Ottawa Folklore Centre, Trip Ferguson and W.D Latimer and Co.;
thankyou to all our individual financial donors for their generous support;
thank you to our raffle prize donators; And finally thank you to every
member of the audience. your presence was profound.

The finances accumulated through our fundraising efforts will go toward
creating a legacy for Colleen. In recognition of her contribution to
Canadian folk and country music, the "Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award"
will be given annually through an adjudicated competition, to support and
promote the work of Canadian singer songwriters, while building awareness
and appreciation of her music among young musicians in these fields.
Shirley and I will make an announcement early in the new year to let you all
know exactly which organization will be administering this award on our
behalf. In the meantime, we are still accepting donations and if you would
like to support our efforts, please make your cheque payable to, "Colleen
Peterson In Trust" and mail to the address below.

Tomorrow is the sixth anniversary of Colleen's passing and we miss her very
much. Thank you for sharing her music, encouraging new writers to emerge and
honouring the spirit of such a beautiful woman. The circle grows strong.

Very sincerely,

Laura Bird
