Before establishing himself as a songwriter, Aengus spearheaded the
publication of "A Call for Peace" (a collection of children's thoughts on
War and Peace), travelled as a speaker on the International Youth for Peace
and Justice Tour, participated on a Canada World Youth Agricultural
Exchange, founded a touring Children's Theatre company in Montreal, taught
in a northern native community, and co-founded the Moosonee Performance
Gathering.
Beyond his public career on the folk club and festival circuit Aengus has
donated private concerts for Elder-hostel programs, nursing home residents,
and inmates; as well as performances and "artist-in-the-classroom" sessions
for elementary, secondary, college, and university students. He has
organised several residencies and summer arts camps, has supported countless
community fundraising efforts, offered adult education and artist centred
workshops; and sat as a panellist for a range of Canadian Arts Industry
events.
His current efforts include organizing the January 2003 concert "The Way We
Feel" to celebrate the songs of Gordon Lightfoot - Canada's legendary
songwriter.
In his own work Aengus strives to inspire others to celebrate our heritage,
culture, and voices. His songs draw on traditional material, an immigrants
observations of a new land, his personal and poetic perspective on the
nature of Canada and her people, and his thoughts on the cultural, economic,
and political landscape of the country.
Aengus is presently on tour in support of his new album NORTH WIND.
