THIS WEEK:
----------

Tue Oct 8 - Sandra Shamas Book Launch - "Wit's End"
w/ Jian Ghomeshi of Moxy Fruvous & host of
$30 of $45 CBC's "Play"
tik price goes MC - Louisa McCormack, host of "Talk TV"
to World Literacy
Canada
- sold out

Sandra Shamas is a brilliant storyteller who pokes fun at her own
foibles in an earthy, honest and deadly fun way, never losing sight
of the fundamental importance of loyalty, affection and love. She
has played to sold-out houses across Canada with her hilarious
one-woman shows.

Among her other works are: The Cycle Continues, Wedding Bell Hell
(all published under the title: My Boyfriend's Back and There's
Going to Be Laundry and subsequently nominated for the Stephen
Leacock Award and the Governor General's Award).

Sandra will be available to sign copies of "Wit's End" at the event.

Jian Ghomeshi

Best known as the singer and songwriter of the popular folk-rock
group, Moxy Fruvous, Jian Ghomeshi is a multi-talented musical
artist, writer and producer.

He blends his passion for humour and politics with beautiful
melodies and poignant personal lyrics that make his wildly unique
solo live performances a mix of storytelling troubadour and
pop/rock spectacular. Jian is currently the host of CBC
Newsworld's arts program, "Play".

-----------

Louisa McCormack, a writer and host on Talk TV's "The Chatroom",
is a self-declared bookworm who will definitely add to the witty
and entertaining mood of this benefit event.

Wed Oct 9 - Betty & The Bobs
$10 w/ special guest Eleanor McEvoy

Betty and the Bobs was formed as an extracurricular vehicle for a
group of Toronto musicians and friends who had worked together in
different bands. Their mandate is to do all the songs they have
ever wanted to do, but would never get around to performing in
their own bands. This includes a bunch of old tunes they grew up
with -- country, blues, R&B, Beatles, gospel, old jazz, as well as
some wacky, original songs.

The Bettys are Suzie Schlanger, Katherine Wheatley, and Suzie
Vinnick; and The Bobs are Wendell Ferguson, Bill Brennan, David
Woodhead, and Rich Greenspoon!

Check out <http://home.ican.net/~woodway/BettyandtheBobs.html> for
more information about each of these great musicians!

Information about Eleanor McEvoy will be available on the website
shortly.

Sat Oct 12/ - Richie Havens
Sun Oct 13!
$40adv/$45

Richie Havens is gifted with one of the most recognizable voices in
popular music. His fiery, poignant, always soulful, singing
style has remained unique and ageless since he first emerged from
the Greenwich Village folk scene in the early 1960's. It's a voice
that has inspired and electrified audiences from the Woodstock
Music & Arts Fair in 1969, to the Clinton Presidential Inauguration
in 1993-coming full circle with the 30th Woodstock Anniversary
celebration, "A Day In The Garden", in 1999.

For three decades, Havens has used his music to convey messages of
community and personal freedom. With over twenty albums released
and a touring schedule that would kill many a younger artist, he
continues to view his calling as a high one. As he told The Denver
Post, "I really sing songs that move me. I'm not in show business,
I'm in the communications business. That's what it's about for me".

Order your tickets now. These shows will sell out! For more about
Richie Havens and his music visit <http://www.richiehavens.com>.
