Additional dates will be in Wallaceburg, Guelph, Dunnville, and Orangeville. Michael Pickett's solo acoustic performances have been garnering much attention these days and, with the release of MICHAEL PICKETT / SOLO (Wooden Teeth Records) it's not hard to understand why. His vocal delivery is passionate and expressive of a deep love and respect for the music to which he has devoted his life. Brilliantly accompanying himself on rack harmonica and guitar, Michael draws his audiences into his rootsy world with moving renditions of tunes by Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Arthur Crudup, Robert Johnson, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Taj Mahal, and others, as well as his own signature originals. Michael tours Canada, the US and Europe and is scheduled to appear in Australia in 2003. John Valenteyn (TBS/Maple Blues) wrote - "SOLO is how you'll see Mr. Pickett performing these days but when the result has this much power and presence, I think you'll agree that this is the equal of his previous albums and a wise career move. With just guitar and harmonica assisting that remarkable voice, there is no place to hide and Pickett's performance is up to the challenge. It also concentrates attention on his guitar playing, something he's not generally known for. Beginning with an ode to his life and business partner, Louise, the CD puts traditional blues lyrics in a way that's completely up to date. Various influences, from Robert Johnson to Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee are incorporated but never copied, creating a seamless set list. Still, "Louise", "Blues is a Friend of Mine", the harmonica-only "Lose Your Money" are highlights and if "Cecil & Spadina", from Conversations, had not been included I would have had to burn a new disc! --------------- Michael Jerome Browne has already established himself as a veritable high priest of traditional American Folk and Roots Music. Born in South Bend, Indiana, he picked up his first instruments, guitar and harmonica, at the age of 9. By his mid-teens, he was a prodigy of the folk scene in Montreal. He created a one-man band show which he busked across North America and in Europe. He then toured for many years as lead singer and guitaristwith the Stephen Barry Band, recording 4 albums with them. Now heralded as a virtuoso in a myriad of folk styles...Appalachian, Cajun, country blues, early jazz, R&B and urban blues, he is also a renowned multi-instrumentalist and considered a master of old-time banjo, fiddle, and mandolin. Browne currently tours North America and Europe playing at festivals, theatres and community halls. He also teaches Roots music in schools, and at workshops and music camps. His latest release, the Juno-nominated DRIVE ON (Borealis Records), includes a selection of traditional songs, some surprising versions of modern songs, and six originals co-written with B.A. Markus in the traditional style. These new songs prove the enduring ability of old-time music to fertilize new growth. Whatever the material is, he gracefully reveals the rhythmic, melodic, and stylistic roots of the music he plays. -- Mother Earth Management Louise Pickett, Manager Michael Pickett, Artist Wooden Teeth Records/Festival mailto:mail@michaelpickett.com http://www.michaelpickett.com 1 (866) 890-9591 Toll Free (North America) (416) 631-6809 Local (Toll Free International) --------------D95082DD9489726C1AAACEE6 Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit <!doctype html public "-//w3c//dtd html 4.0 transitional//en"> Friday, October 4
