well, more of a london ontario accent* then west texas, but good acoustic
country music nonetheless.
1st sunday of the month (oct 6) means that the wheel of fortune (or in this
case, the wheel of pwyc) has arrived once again at the brothers
countrypolitan's regular sunday best matinee at the cameron house front
room (6-8pm / 408 queen, west of spadina, in tor-on-toe)
that's me, alone at the (single) microphone, ably backed by members of the
frizzells (who, pace scotty campbell, have been playing roots/rockabilly
music since they's babies). now that he's done getting married, we can
welcome pete gray into the manifold on pedal
steel. not-your-garden-variety cool old country tunes, songs from other
genres that *ought* to be cool old country tunes, and the odd homemade
wanna-be cool old country tune. and lotsa singing.
sunday best is an acoustic country series that picks-up where the old
backstabber's sunday matinee left off (to become the grand old uproar at
the legion). sunday best residents include, in weekly succession, the
brothers countrypolitan (1st sun of the month), charleyhorse (2nd sunday of
the month), the foggy hogtown boys (3rd sunday) and the hokey jeremiahs
(4th sunday). whenever there's a 5th sunday, swamperella play. easy-peasy.
all shows are 6-8pm pass-the-hat affairs, and the performers use a
single-mic with the great natural acoustic of the cameron house front room.
*growing up there, it seemed people would say "malk" for milk, and "ayeggs"
for eggs. or maybe i had thames river water in my ears, could be.
