Annual Awards Honour Independent Recording Artists
Independent recording artists have until November 1 only to apply for the
2003 Canadian Independent Music Awards, or =B3Indies=B2, to be held at the
Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto on Wednesday, February 26, 2003, par=
t
of kick-off celebrations for the 20th anniversary of Canadian Music Week
(CMW). Entry forms along with submission rules and regulations be obtained
from the CMW Web site at www.cmw.net or by contacting Moe McTague at (905)
858-4747 or via email at communications@cmw.net.
The =B3Indies=B2 are a juried event, celebrating outstanding achievement in
sound recording. The awards are limited to independent artists and cover
some 16 different genres of music from =B3Rock Album of the Year=B2 to
=B3Children=B9s Album of the Year=B2. Last year=B9s winners include: Ron Sexsmith
(Major Indie Album of the Year, Harry Manx (Blues Album of the Year) and
Manitoba (Electronica Album of the Year).
Presented by FACTOR, Indie Pool and Galaxie, The Continuous Music Network.
Four-day event brings together up-and-coming artists
and key music industry professionals in a live performance setting
Organizers of Canadian Music Week (CMW) are now accepting applications for
showcase spots at the 12th annual CMW Music Week Festival, running February
27 through March 1 at selected venues throughout downtown Toronto. The
deadline for applications is November 1, 2002. Entry forms can be obtained
from the CMW Web site at www.cmw.net, by calling (905) 858-4747, or via
email at communications@cmw.net.
Presented by Future Shop, the CMW Music Week Festival is one of the most
important events of its kind in Canada, bringing together up-and-coming
artists and key music industry professionals in a live performance setting.
Among the many artists who have launched their careers at the Festival are:
The Matthew Good Band, Semisonic, Holly McNarland, Serial Joe, Choclair and
The Rankins.
Artists who submit their showcase applications to CMW by November 1 are
automatically entered into the Future Stars Talent Search. Sponsored by
Future Shop, the Talent Search attracts over 300 independent groups and
artists annually. Participants vie for a grand prize, which includes a
recording contract with Universal Music Canada.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Canadian Music Week is the single biggest
entertainment initiative in Canada dedicated to the expression and growth o=

the country=B9s media and entertainment industries. CMW combines two
information-intensive conferences; a cutting-edge trade exposition; five
