Howdy all - Singing in a couple of concerts I'm very excited about over =
the next couple of weekends.=20
If you are nearby, love to see you! Details below. Brenda L

1) "Celebrating the Music of Colleen Peterson", Hugh's Room, Toronto, =
This Sunday Evening. It's a true honour to be part of this concert, this =
weekend. Hats off to Laura Bird for conceiving the idea, then taking on =
this monumental, but wonderful task! Guessing that tickets are moving =
fast for this, so best to reserve at: =
http://www.hughsroom.com/zcolleenpeterson.html Details/Performers =
line-up pasted in below.=20

2) "Brenda's First-ever Homecoming/Hometown Concert" w/ Tony Quarrington =
- This gig just 'officially' been confirmed; been working on setting =
this up for quite awhile ... I didn't start singing professionally until =
over a decade ago after moving to Guelph, so oddly enough have never =
really tried to organize playing in my hometown/region =
(Prescott/Brockville/Ottawa). There'll be lots of old friends and family =
at this one! Myself on vocals & the amazing Tony Quarrington on guitar. =
We'll be mixing it up with: Vintage Jazz Standards & Torch, =
Country-Blues, Folk and Blues. Friday, October 18, 8-10pm, Royal Oak =
III, Kanata (which is Ottawa; more or less...). Will post further =
details as that gig gets closer. Please email me if you want more =
details before that.

"CELEBRATING THE MUSIC OF COLLEEN PETERSON"
                            with=20
Sylvia Tyson, Caitlin Hanford, Cindy Church, & Gwen Swick of Quartette
Laura Bird, Rebecca Campbell, Wendell Ferguson, Georgette Fry
Randy Kempf, Brenda Lewis, Anne Lindsay, Chris MacLean,=20
Nancy Simmonds, Tannis Slimmon, Suzie Vinnick, Jack Walker
Katherine Wheatley
Singer songwriter Colleen Peterson crossed all musical borders from jazz =
through folk, country, gospel and rock. She had a soaring voice, =
engaging stage presence and proven songwriting talent making her a =
lasting presence on the music scene both in Canada and abroad.=20

The recipient of two JUNO AWARDS, she was recently inducted posthumously =
into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. Anne Murray, Sylvia Tyson =
and Ronnie Prophet, recorded Colleen's songs. Her writing partners =
included Nancy Simmonds, Sylvia Tyson and Cyril Rawson. In the summer of =
1993, she joined Sylvia Tyson, Caitlin Hanford and Cindy Church forming =
Quartette, now one of the most dynamic and inspiring musical =
collaborations on the Canadian music scene.=20

Colleen was incredibly generous with her talent, appearing on TV =
benefits, vigorously supporting Peter Gzowski's pro-literacy activities =
as well as leading songwriting workshops at various festivals and music =
camps. Colleen passed away at the age of 45 in October 1996, after a =
year-long battle with cancer.=20

In recognition of Colleen Peterson's contribution to Canadian folk and =
country music, the mission is to build awareness and appreciation of her =
music among young singer songwriters in these fields. A legacy will be =
created by awarding a Colleen Peterson Songwriter Award to support and =
promote the work of Canadian singer songwriters. This award of $1,000 =
will be given annually through an adjudicated competition. The duration =
of perpetuity is based on the total amount raised.=20

The award will be drawn from the funds raised at the "Celebrating the =
Music of Colleen Peterson" Benefit Concert to be held on October 6th, =
2002 here at Hugh's Room. The combined voices of several leading =
performers, including her former Quartette partners, will come together =
for an intimate evening of entertainment.=20

We hope to raise a minimum of $10,000 through presentation of this =
concert and various fundraising activities. All funds raised are meant =
for donation to the Award Fund.=20

If you are unable to attend, please consider a donation. Your financial =
support will help ensure that the Colleen Peterson Songwriter Award =
enjoys a long and successful duration. Donations may be made out to =
"Colleen Peterson In Trust" and mailed to the address below.=20
