Battlefield Band - Under the banner "Forward with Scotland’s Past", the
BATTLEFIELD BAND has been performing on the international scene for more
than 30 years. Inspired by their rich heritage of Celtic music and fired by
the strength of the modern Scottish cultural scene, Battlefield Band mixes
the old songs and tunes with new self-penned material, playing them on a
unique fusion of ancient and modern instruments: bagpipes, synthesizers,
fiddles, guitars, citterns, banjo, bass, whistles, and bouzouki. In fact,
Battlefield Band pioneered the integration of bagpipes with vocals, guitar,
keyboards and fiddle. Founded by a group of friends in 1969 and named after
the "Battlefield" section of Glasgow, Battlefield Band now performs
throughout the world, playing to audiences in Europe, Asia, the Middle East,
Canada, as well as more than 60 cities annually in the United States. Their
music is played regularly on National Public Radio’s Thistle and Shamrock
program, and they are frequent guests on Minnesota Public Radio’s A Prairie
Home Companion. The Battlefield Band’s newest recording is TIME & TIDE,
which was released in September 2002. Featuring original tunes and songs
from all of the members, TIME & TIDE reflects the spirit and warmth of the
individuals who make up the band, along with the cultural vibrancy and
self-confidence of a newly independent Scotland. The album title refers to
the many years that have passed and many more years to come that Battlefield
Band brings their mix of traditional and original music to appreciative
audiences worldwide. More information and photos at

"...They knit the Scottish tradition into a sound that still sounds fresh,
alert and relevant ... No tricks, no gimmicks, just very fine music." --
Colin Irwin - MOJO (Sept. 2002)
"If nothing else, this band could teach many of the folk world's luminaries
a thing or two when it comes to giving the audience what they really want -
entertainment, instrumental virtuosity and, above all, camaraderie."
-- Peter Fyfe - Rock 'n' Reel (Nov. 1998)
Thanks for reading this.
I hope you can make one of the concerts.
Cheers,
Ian Davies
