"Early' Season's Greetings, All (we DO have snow in SW Ontario after =
all ...). Before everyone gets bombarded with 'the usual' music of the =
season, here is a chance to enjoy some 'unusual' music of the season: =
folksy and bluesy-jazz Christmas fare; Chanukkah, Winter Solstice and =
winter-themed tunes - with an emphasis on rich vocal harmonies. We hope =
that some of you will join us at either of our 2 upcoming CD release =
concerts in Arkell and Stratford (please note that the Arkell =
Schoolhouse concert is presented by Nonie & I; the series will still be =
going into hibernation by then). CD, Ticket and venue info below. =
Cheers; Brenda & Nonie
"The Snow Angels (Brenda Lewis & Nonie Crete)" in Concert for CD =
Release:"Holidays In Harmony" (in Arkell & Stratford)
"It's the lovely voices, both individually and together in harmony, that =
soothe the ear and warm the heart. Because of the diversity of material, =
this is an album that need not be confined to the Yuletide but can be =
enjoyed throughout the winter months." (Robert Reid, Kitchener-Waterloo =
Record - From CD Review: "'Crete and Lewis Came Together Like the Magic =
of the Season" Thursday December 20, 2001)
Two years ago, Guelph's Brenda Lewis and Fergus' Nonie Crete =
http://www.noniecrete.com joined their voices to create the distinctive =
vocal harmonies that audiences have come to expect from them whenever =
they perform live in concert together. "Holidays in Harmony" is their =
first CD recorded as a duo, just in time for the 2002 holiday season (it =
was a limited edition release in December 2001). For this recording, =
they are calling themselves the "Snow Angels". They invite you to =
celebrate with them at either (or both!) of two CD Release concerts =
which they are presenting in two magically intimate venues: "The Arkell =
Schoolhouse Gallery" near Guelph, and, "Tango Coffee Bistro" in =
Stratford (Ticket and Concert Info Below for Both).
"Holidays in Harmony" is a selection of songs that befit the wonder of =
the season and the wish for peace in the world - borrowed from the =
traditions of gentle Christmas ballads, to haunting Chanukkah pieces in =
Hebrew and Winter Solstice rounds. The spare, lovely arrangements focus =
on the warmth of Brenda's voice combined with the clarity of Nonie's and =
are enhanced by the mandolin and penny whistle of Eugene Rea (who will =
be joining them at both concerts) - and of course, Nonie's ever-tasteful =
guitar and harmonica.=20
Lewis' Jewish roots (Dad) are reflected in two of the songs which she =
leads: the Gypsy-flavoured waltz: Y'Did Nfesh (a Hebrew Prayer) and =
Blessing for the Candles (for Chanukkah), and, her celtic roots (Mum) =
shine through in a lesser known melody of Auld Lang Syne (first recorded =
in Canada by Bobby Watt). As well, she leads a rare alto version of Ave =
Maria, and, the Solstice Round.
Crete breathes fresh life into old Christmas chestnuts with soothingly =
folky versions of: Silent Night, The Christmas Song, What Child is This =
and O' Holy Night. Her rendition of Steve Earles' Nothing But a Child =
could become a new Christmas classic. Of special note is her 10-year old =
daughter Kathleen's angelic recording debut of Away in a Manger (look =
for a guest appearance by Kathleen in the concerts).
The CD was recorded at "Rea Studios" http://www.reastudios.com in =
Arkell, Ontario, engineered by Eugene Rea and co-produced by all three =
musicians.

Highly Recommended)
