I wrote earlier about my recent experience with Canada Post. Here's my
original email and their response.
Hello Mr. Burns,
Thank you for writing to Canada Post. Kindly accept my apologies for
the
delay of this response.
Within Canada the item would have been classified under Parcel Rates
while
Internationally the item was classified as a Small Packet. Small
packet
rates would be cheaper than Parcel Post within Canada. For mailings
within
Canada there is not a Small Packet classification.

Subject: I'm confused.
I'm trying to understand postal rates and they are confusing me.
Earlier this year I sent a package to Alberta and the charge for the
cheapest postage was a little over $7.00 with tax. Today I sent a
similar package, the box used was exactly the same and the contents
might have been slightly heavier than the Alberta package, to Taiwan. I
was quoted and surface rate of a little more than $3.00 and and airmail
rate of just over $5.00.
Why does it cost me less to mail something to Taiwan than to Alberta?
