THIS WEEK:
----------
Wed Nov 13 - Betty & The Bobs
$10
Betty and the Bobs was formed as an extracurricular vehicle for a
group of Toronto musicians and friends who had worked together in
different bands. Their mandate is to do all the songs they have
ever wanted to do, but would never get around to performing in
their own bands. This includes a bunch of old tunes they grew up
with -- country, blues, R&B, Beatles, gospel, old jazz, as well as
some wacky, original songs.
The Bettys are Suzie Schlanger, Katherine Wheatley, and Suzie
Vinnick; and The Bobs are Wendell Ferguson, Bill Brennan, David
Woodhead, and Rich Greenspoon!
Check out <http://home.ican.net/~woodway/BettyandtheBobs.html> for
more information about each of these great musicians!

Thu Nov 14 - Bob Snider CD Release - "Stealin' Home"
$12adv/$14
"Bob's a living legend.. His sheer ability to entertain
commands respect, and there's no one more deserving of
a serious listen."
-- Robert Earl Keen Jr.
Bob Snider has been called everything from "a national treasure"
to "a living legend". His songs have been covered by a who's who
of Canadian musicians including Ashley MacIsaac, backed by Jale!,
Meryn Cadell and the Leslie Spit Tree-o.
He has recorded extensively himself with two cassettes, "Live
at the Free Times Cafe" and "You" to his credit, and his first
full-length CD "Caterwaul and Doggerel", released in the spring
of 1995 to wide-spread critical acclaim. 1996 saw the release of
the live recording of the Bob Snider tribute concert, Poetreason,
where Bob's songs were covered by the likes of The Barenaked
Ladies, Change of Heart and Moxy Fruvous. Moxy will also be
recording Bob's "Ash Hash" on their next CD.
Bob's new CD, "Stealin' Home" (his debut on Borealis Records)
is sure to please. So join us for a night of celebration as Bob
treats us to his new songs served up with warmth, wit and just
the right off-beat spin his live shows are known for.

Fri Nov 15 - David Bradstreet - Recorded Live !!
$15
Don't miss this Friday's performance when David Bradstreet takes
the Hugh's Room stage - recorded live!
David is one of Canada's most respected singer/songwriters and
composers with 14 albums to his credit, a high profile Juno award
early in his career, and subsequent Juno nominations, including
this year's Best Instrumental Album ("Angel's Embrace"). One of his
early gems, "Renaissance", has become a standard in the folk/acoustic
lexicon through a hit version by Valdy.
The 70s-90s were a very busy time for David, who continued to record
other high profile albums, perform, become a much sought
after record producer (Jane Siberry, Billie Hughes), and composer
for many film and television programmes, garnering him a Gemini
nomination. The new millenium certainly bodes as well, with two
of David's Solitude instrumental CDs achieving Gold and Platinum status
this year.
Another highpoint of 2002 was Universal Music's digitally remastered
release of his debut self-titled album for its Heritage series.
This event will mark the makings of his FIRST live CD with David
performing these vintage tunes and his outstanding new originals - so
warm up your vocal chords and be a part of the CD's sing-along section!

Sat Nov 16 - Lennie Gallant CD Release - "Le Vent Boheme"
$18adv/$20
"Mesmerizing and evocative".
-- Globe and Mail
A native of Prince Edward Island, Lennie's music has taken him to
all corners of the world. His passion for intensive life experiences is
reflected in the dramatic scenarios of his songs. Gallant’s writing has
poetic lyricism that deals with issues of people's struggles, heartache
and dreams, demonstrating why he
is one of the finest songwriters in Canada and beyond.
Gallant’s dedication and craftsmanship as a songwriter has
resulted in several Juno nominations and eleven East Coast Music
Awards. In addition to the songs on his five albums, he has
written many (in French and English) for other artists, theatre
productions, feature films, and other projects.
As an entertainer, Gallant's intense emotional delivery reaches
down to the very soul of this audience, moving effortlessly
through stirring narratives, comic observations and hard driving
rhythms. Already a household name in Atlantic Canada, Gallant is
gaining more and more attention abroad.

Sun Nov 17 - Anne Lindsay
$14adv/$16 accomp. by David Woodhead (bass, mandola),
Al Cross (drums), Vern Dorge (horns)
Opening set: Jason Fowler
“Anne Lindsay cut the night air with a brilliant
fiddle solo that proved to be one-third Ashley MacIsaac
and two-thirds Jimi-Hendrix.”
-Jeff Macklin, Peterborough Examiner
Anne Lindsay's been eavesdropping.
For most of her life, the Toronto violinist (or is she a
fiddler?) has been listening in on other people's musical
conversations, absorbing an enormous variety of ideas, idioms,
dialects, patterns, rhythms and melodies.
Anne's funky, fiddle-driven music combines strong melodies and
complex rhythms with a rootsy approach to stretching musical
boundaries. Anne has performed on concert, club and festival
stages and in countless studio sessions with artists including
John McDermott, Jim Cuddy, Blue Rodeo, Natalie McMaster, The
Chieftains, Led Zeppelin, Oliver Schroer, Oh Susanna, Beyond The
Pale, Heartwood, The Calore Trio, David Woodhead, and in the hit
stage musical, Stan Rogers: A Matter Of Heart! Anne also
regularly plays (fiddle!) for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Guitarist extraordinaire Jason Fowler opens the night!
