[mplpost] uke

Okay - I have to jump in here.

I inherited a banjo-uke from a family member in England when I was 6. It was
the instrument that pointed me into this career. It had a loose skin head
and I had to hold it over a lampbulb to tighten it sufficiently to bring the
strings (fishing line) off the fretboard to get a tone.
My earliest performance was me standing in front of our flowered curtains in
the tiny living room in our council house in London, and imagining the
flowers were smiling faces.
One of the best audiences I ever had...

As modest and unsophisticated as the little uke might be, it was a ton of
inspiration for me - and likely a whole generation of George Fornby fans.
