[mplpost] Maplepost October Survey / Gig AB

When you're dying of the flu it always helps to take on brainless
tasks so...it's Nov. 1 and it's an even numbered year, you know what
that means! Long time members of this list will recall that in '98
and '00 I did October surveys of the type of postings coming in to
Maplepost.

(Pause once again for an even larger collective groan)

I've tried to provide a little focus by clustering submissions to the
lists in loose subject categories. A wee bit of commentary follows
the list.

Given my unchanged opinion re making individual local gig
announcments on national lists, you can safely presume that I'm
pleased with how things have evolved. I will note that the
convention of prefixing gig announcement subject lines with the word
GIG and the appropriate Province has slackened somewhat and I'd like
to encourage gig posters to modify their subject lines accordingly.
Those of us who like to employ filters to regulate our e-mail
appreciate this consideration.

A subject line example: Gig AB Zubot and Dawson / The Wailin' Jennys

Then in the body of the message would be the news/promo/hype/ticket
prices/ticket outlets/venue address etc. about the above named
artists playing a concert in Alberta.

Those of you who might actually be interested in that show can get
the info you need at:

http://www.ucalgary.ca/~bmccombs/nickelodeon/

Alternately, you can find out about lots of Alberta gigs, including
the above, by consulting Musi-Cal at:
http://www.musi-cal.com/ and doing a general search under "Alberta".

Doing that will reveal November Alberta shows by The Paperboys,
Martin Sexton, Eric Bibb, Stephen Fearing, Sons of the San Joachin,
and the Afro-Cuban All Stars, among many others. See how easy it is?

cheers, Vic
