HERE COMES THE 15th WOMEN'S BLUES REVUE

A quick reminder that the 15th annual Toronto Blues Society's Women's Blues
Revue is taking place the Danforth Music Hall a week from this Saturday -
on Saturday Nov. 24.

This is a music event that always sells out - and the lineup indicates that
it might be smart to get your tickets now! (Not to mention all the
fabulous last-minute press and TV that always brings the latecomers to the
doors!).
So here's the stuff you should know:

What: 15th annual Women's Blues Revue.

When: Saturday Nov. 24, 8.00 p.m.

Where: The Music Hall, 147 Danforth Ave., east of Broadview

Starring: SUSIE ARIOLI, ALANA BRIDGEWATER, DIVINE EARTH ESSENCE, SUE FOLEY,
MARTINA SORBARA, NANETTE WORKMAN, hosted by SHELAGH ROGERS of CBC Radio's
This Morning.

Featuring: The Women's Blues Revue all star band, including LILY SAZZ
(keys, leader), MARG STOWE (guitar), SUZIE VINNICK (bass), MICHELLE JOSEF
(drums), SARAH MCELCHERAN (trumpet), COLLEEN ALLEN and JANE BUNNETT (sax).

How much: $20.00 plus s/c at Ticketmaster (416) 870-8000,
<http://www.ticketmaster.ca> or at the Toronto Women's Bookstore, Backbeat,
or Pages Books. (Toronto Blues Society members get in a bit cheaper:
$16.00 with proof of membership).

Presented by: The Toronto Blues Society, (416) 538-3885.

This year's Revue, as always, features artists who offer a variety of
approaches to the blues. NANETTE WORKMAN is a major pop star in Quebec
(but was born in Mississippi); this marks her first concert appearance in
Toronto in many years, and the release of an outstanding new blues album
sung, of course, in English.

Also making her Revue debut is Montreal's SUSIE ARIOLI in a rare appearance
without her award-winning Swing Band. DIVINE EARTH ESSENCE is a newcomer
who made a strong impact during Harbourfront's star-studded summer series,
while MARTINA SORBARA is a young folk/pop singer who broke wide open on
Canada's festival scene this summer, and who has become fascinated with the
blues and swing genres, performing regularly with local bands.

Returning to the annual event will be Ottawa's Juno-winning SUE FOLEY, and
a major winner at the 2001 Maple Blues Awards, earning no less than five
citations. ALANA BRIDGEWATER made her Toronto concert debut at the event
four years ago, earning a standing ovation for her scorching vocal work.

The Revue's host, once again, is CBC Radio's SHELAGH ROGERS, who counts her
role as one of the highlights of her year - she's a serious blues fan, as
listeners to her daily radio show, This Morning, have discovered.

Finally, the Revue is recorded by CBC Radio for later broadcast on Saturday
Night Blues, and it's produced by the Toronto Blues Society with support
from City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Arts
Council, and the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. (A
big thankyou to those folk, without whom, etc...)

Hope to see you there - I'll be manning the Box office!
 Richard
