I have not seen Ken's post re live interviews at festivals.
Further to Derek Andrews response:
Live interviews on stage were introduced as part of my Mariposa =
programming.
This would have been in the' 70s. Although I did attend several Heritage =
Festivals
I am not sure of the chronology in relation to Mariposa. These =
situations were also a part of Smithsonian Folk Life festivals, =
fascinating and very valuable.
I felt it was important to present a traditional participant in a =
comfortable situation ... usually with a younger performer who knew =
her/him... so that the audience could learn about the person behind the =
music. As always, context. =20
The idea was also useful for well known performers who might be seen in =
a different=20
and not usual way.=20

Re the Jackie Washington interview by Ken Whiteley at Folk Meet:
I thought it was wonderfully well done and Jackie's recall of great =
stories was a revelation to many.=20
It was an honour to be interviewed by David Barnard and Eve Goldberg at =
the previous conference. I'd like to think that those in attendance =
learned something of interest.
Regards
Estelle
