Thur Nov 15 - Colin Linden
8:30, $15 CD Release - "Bad Mouth"
Songwriter - producer - band leader - band member, Colin Linden
is indeed a man of many hats and accomplishments, not the least
of which include his debut recording with Mississippi bluesman
Sam Chatman in 1979 ("Sam Chatmon & His BBQ Boys"), a Juno award in
1994, production of recordings for blues hero Morgan Davis as
well as Jackson Delta, Hans Thessink, Lennie Gallant, Stephen Fearing &
Bruce Cockburn.
Along with Junkhouse leader Tom Wilson and Fearing, he formed
the infamous Willie P. Bennett tribute band, Blackie & The
Rodeo Kings in 1996. And of course he's been a long-time touring band
member with Bruce Cockburn. Well these are just a few
of the items on a very busy list - and of course he has now
added to that with the release of another great album. Join
Colin for an up-close and personal night of acoustic music and
storytelling.

Fri Nov 16 - Sandy MacIntyre & Steeped In Tradition
8:30, no cover
The worldwide itinerary of some of Cape Breton's new, young, highly
energized and unorthodox players is both a tribute and a
testament to traditionalists such as Sandy MacIntyre. The on-stage
visual antics of some of the new wave players might make some of the old
bygone masters roll over but the sound of these same young innovators
playing a traditional Cape Breton fiddle tune would make those same old
masters' chests swell with uncontrollable pride. Although Sandy
MacIntyre may not have had any of these youngsters as students in his
fiddle classes in Toronto or at Saint Ann's Gaelic College in Cape
Breton, he has certainly
taught them and taught them well.
Sandy has spent some forty years playing, teaching and promoting Cape
Breton fiddle music and stepdancing in and around Toronto, Cape Breton,
California, the North West Territories, British Columbia and Scotland.
One of the highlights of Sandy's career was in 1995 when some friends
and fans of his got together and organized an
appreciation in recognition and honour of his tremendous contribution to
the preservation and promotion of Cape Breton fiddle and dance. Sandy
received messages from friends and dignitaries alike and he was
especially touched by messages of congratulations from fellow fiddlers
such as Winnie Chafe,
Buddy MacMaster, Natalie MacMaster, Ashley MacIsaac and Howie MacDonald.
Sandy will be joined by a wonderful group of players, "Steeped
In Tradition", comprised of Mary MacIntyre (vocals, keyboard), Mickey
Andrews (steel guitar), Brian MacIntyre (vocals, guitar), and Damien
Walsh (vocals, bass).

Sat/Sun Nov 17/18 - Odetta
8:30, $25adv/$30
The legendary singer Odetta defies categorization. Her
remarkable, enduring career, spanning over five decades, has celebrated
folk music, the blues and gospel throughout the world.
She is distinguished by the power and clarity in her voice and
the rich intensity of her delivery.
In the early '50s, Odetta had already built quite an impressive
reputation on the West Coast. By the end of that decade, she was
touring the United States and Canada. Unquestionably one of the
brightest stars of the folk music renaissance of the early '60s,
she stirred audiences and critics at Carnegie Hall and made two
memorable appearances at the renowned Newport Folk Festival.
Over the years, Odetta has toured tirelessly, recorded multiple
albums, and appeared in several films. Her diversity and interest
in myriad musical forms has forged many eclectic partnerships,
including collaborations with Count Basie, Bob Dylan and Langston
Hughes. Critic Adam Barnes praises Odetta as "a large and
significant voice that can swell with majesty, phrase delicately,
dipping deep into the bottomless well of song." Share a rare, intimate
evening with one of the true musical luminaries of our time…the
incomparable Odetta!
