AENGUS FINNAN has a map in his mind. It's an old fur trader's map, of a
dark and often desolate land. Scratched onto it, in ink and blood, are
words of the mapmakers: Here be mountains; yonder lies the sea. A map begs
a quest, and Finnan's quest finds him charting the distance of this quiet
land in song and revealing the lonesome lives of familiar strangers, small
town visionaries, restless boys, weary waitresses, forlorn captains, and
lovers cruelly parted by the whims of coldest fate. 

Born to a performing family in Dublin, Ireland, Aengus has been immersed
in story, song, and theatre all his life. His family immigrated to Canada
when he was 4 and settled in Shelter Valley, Ontario, where they
established an organic vegetable farm run on wind and solar power. At 16
Aengus left home to explore Canada as a student of visual arts at Lester B
Pearson United World
College in Victoria, an actor in Montreal, a research diver in Alberta,
and eventually as a teacher in Moosonee, on the James Bay coast. 

Now 29, Finnan has taken to the road, guitar in hand, with humble songs
and piercing stories that beckon us to "remember what was forgotten,
restore what was lost, and redeem what might have been". 

His debut CD "Fool's Gold" was recorded by acclaimed CBC producer Paul
Mills (who many may know from his work with Stan Rogers), was supported by
the Ontario Arts Council, released on Finnan's independent Label "SHELTER
VALLEY" and is now distributed by FESTIVAL Distribution. 

This recording is a collection of stunning original works and vibrant
renditions of traditional songs, featuring guest musicians: David
Woodhead, Chris Whiteley, Curly Boy Stubbs, Lorretto Reid, Zeke Mazurek,
Eve Goldberg, and Juno Award winning singer-songwriter Jenny Whiteley.
Several original songs from the album have received industry awards,
including the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals' "Songs from the Heart"
songwriting Award. 

Since the 1999 release of "Fool's Gold" Aengus has toured folk clubs,
community centres, schools, theatres, and folk festivals from Newfoundland
to Vancouver Island, sharing stages and concert billings with the likes of
Garnet Rogers, James Keelaghan, John Renbourn, Tamarack, Stephen Fearing,
Moxy Fruvous, Tanglefoot, and Ian Robb. Finnan has been interviewed on
regional and national CBC programs, performed on college radio broadcasts
from coast to coast, was featured live on Toronto's CITY TV, and hosted a
television commercial for the 40th Anniversary MARIPOSA Folk Festival.

Most recently Aengus Finnan was nominated "Touring Artist of the Year" by
presenters in the B.C. Touring Council, while Canada Music Week nominated
"Fool's Gold" as Folk/Roots Album of the Year. Since receiving the Year
2000 New Business Award sponsored by The Business Development Bank of
Canada he has also begun presenting seminars on "Creating Business Plans
for Independent Artists" for school, community, and industry conferences. 

Currently Aengus is in pre-production for his second album (with Paul
Mills), slated for release this Fall. 

TERRY TUFTS: "Have guitar. Will travel."
Terry Tufts has been playing professionally for three decades. His music
is inspired  and his lyrics speak straight from the heart. His guitar
playing is from the same school  that created John Fahey and Leo Kottke:
strong melodies supported by uniquely crafted  finger-style
orchestrations, painting stirring backdrops for some engaging stories. His
 rapport with the audience is strengthened by a lightning deftness and a
command of the fingerboard that leaves the listener breathless.

Terry was born on Lake Erie in Gasline, Ontario, Canada and grew up in the
U.S., Italy,  Eastern and Central Canada. His talents have carried him all
over the world where he has  been employed by numerous artists in the
studio and in live performance for his abilities on a variety of
instruments and a seemingly limitless vocal range. He has released four 
independently produced albums. His fifth album, WALK ON, was released in
February of  2001 on the Borealis record label, produced by Ian Tamblyn. 

Terry blends a well-traveled personal history into music without
boundaries. He began singing at age 3, playing mandolin at age 9 and
playingguitar at age 13 while his family was posted in Denver, Colorado.
Moving to Ottawa, Terry played in a duo with  his older brother Tim and
later, with Brian Bourne, (bass player for Rawlins Cross and  Lenny
Gallant) they helped form the core of a successful band named RedRock
Hotel. In the early 80's, Terry  performed in a duo with Lynn Miles.

Since 1982 Terry has been performing as a solo artist when not in demand
as both a session and touring musician. He has taught guitar workshops at
The Ottawa  Folklore Centre in Ottawa. 

Terry was employed as band leader and guitarist for EMI recording artist
Susan Aglukark;  played guitar and executed vocals on Charlie Major's 1993
summer tour; has opened  for Rodney Crowell, Jesse Winchester, Valdy and
Tony Trishka. He's also done three  tours as Drifting Cowboy guitarist
Sammy Pruitt in the highly acclaimed stage play HANK WILLIAMS: THE SHOW HE
NEVER GAVE, starring Sneezy Waters.  Terry is the 1997 regional winner of
the Standard Radio Songwriter's Competition and one of the three winners
of the 1998 the winner of the 2001 Ontario Council of Folk Festival's
Songs From The Heart competition.

KENDALL SULLIVAN: Blue skies and wide open spaces inspires this young
Yukon  woman to create a rootsy Canadiana sound. The debut CD "Back To
You" with Joe Bishop combines old tyme mountain harmonies with simple
acoustic  accompaniment, to tell timeless tales of death, God and love.
Bluegrass, folk,  Celtic and country influences are heard throughout the
music. 

Sullivan started writing poetry at the age of nine, and has been singing
since she can remember. Bishop's music is a reflection of travelling the
highways of North America with guitar and pen in hand. Together, the depth
of their songwriting, along with haunting, free flowing harmonies puts
them on the cutting edge of contemporary roots music.

___________________________________________________________ SUZIE VINNICK:
Suzie was born in Saskatoon and started out performing at "Bud's", a
restaurant and blues club which gave Suzie her first taste of stage
performance and the electricity of working live with other musicians.
Playing live with seasoned  musicians like Maurice John Vaughn, she
developed a powerful and emotive vocal style while also became a fluid and
focussed bass player. 

After meeting Tony D. in 1991, Suzie made a career decision and moved to
Ottawa joining Tony's "Cool Band". Her contributions to Tony's 1992 award
winning release, Dig Deep -- solid bass playing and stunning vocals --
people sat up and took notice. It was also during this time that touring
gave her the exciting chance to jam with superstar, Bryan Adams at the
King Eddy in Calgary. 

After two years of musical adventures with Tony D., Suzie was feeling the
need to spread her wings and develop her own project. Although Suzie and
the blues had been good to one another, she'd never seen herself primarily
as a blues artist. Suzie's musical tastes and influences have ranged from
her early love of Heart, Supertramp and Rickie Lee Jones, to her current
admiration for performers such as Shawn Colvin, John Hiatt and Sting. 

As well as wanting to grow stylistically, Suzie aspired to write more of
her own material. The result was Angel in the Sidelines, which included
nine original tracks. The success of Angel made Suzie an artist in demand.
She has toured the club and festival circuits with the exceptional
guitarist, Rick Fines (Jackson Delta) and percussionist extraordinaire,
Miche Pouliot (Jann Arden, Bruce Cockburn & k.d Lang). She has performed
for Canadian Peacekeepers in Bosnia and the Persian Gulf, at the Festival
International De Jazz De Montreal, Toronto's Harbour Front Festival, the
Ottawa Folk Festival, Cultures Canada and a number of other venues around
Canada and the U.S. 

SONGWRITING HIGHLIGHTS: 
* 2001 - Had three co-writes place in the 2000 Unisong songwriting
contest:  "No Boundaries" (Vinnick/Magraw) came in 2nd place in the
Environment/Human Rights category; "I'm Not Gonna Cry"
(Smith/Vinnick/Bynoe) and "Wish I Could Say (What I Mean) placed in the
top ten percent of all entries. 
* 2001 -  Kristi Magraw, Stu Lister (Lister) and I placed in the top 6
(out of 1500) in the Nashville Songwriters Association International
(NSAI) songwriting contest with our song, "All That I Ask For".  * 2000  
Won grand prize in the Northern California Songwriters Association
Songwriting Contest with the song "All That I Ask For"
(Vinnick/Lister/Magraw)  * 2000    Was one of three runner-ups in the
Ontario Council of Folk Festival s songwriting contest, Songs From The
Heart  with the song, "All That I Ask For" (Vinnick/Lister/Magraw)  * 2000

songwriting contest (out of 4200 entries).  "All That I Ask For"

PERFORMING HIGHLIGHTS

* One of nine featured singers invited to perform at the Joni Mitchell
tribute concert at the World Leaders Festival at Harbourfront in Toronto
on October 16th. Other artists on the bill included Jane Siberry, Marc
Jordan, Tuku, David Sereda, Ember Swift, Emm Gryner, Rebecca Jenkins &
Martina Sorbara. 
* performed for Members and the Board at the Songwriters Association of
Canada's Annual General Meeting on May 4th. 
* sang background vocals on three tracks on David Wilcox's new album
