hi folks-- here's something for you nostalgia buffs out there-- and we sure
know you are there now, don't we? Ed Whitcomb, an Ottawa folklorist and
author, is putting out what he's calling the "great Canadian Songbook" next
year--- it's for the school market i believe-- so his publisher has asked
him to divide it into thematic categories.... He's looking for feedback
about the first draft of his list, which I've copied below... songs that
he's obviously missing, songs that should NOT be there, etc... I've already
given him my two-cents worth, and I've questioned the American songs he's
put on the list-- I'm not entirely sure what the criteria is for inclusion--
it's obviously not a "folk" book-- though it leans heavily that way... he
asked me to pass this along to youse guys for any suggestions you might
have-- you can e-mail him directly at 4whitcombs@sympatico.ca , as well as
discussing it amongst yourselves while you are nursing your sore throats...

It looks like a worthwhile venture- It's great that he's doing it-- have fun
with this!
