Bunkhouse Nostalgia?
The fellow who ran the music hall in Victoria was, I believe, Gipp
[not Skip} Forester who wrote some wonderful stuff back in the
60s. I edited some of his work for him and found him a few gigs.
He had a LP out, can't remember the name. He later ran the
Mustard Seed in Victoria.
Les Stork ran the bunkhouse and I remember David Wiffin recording
there. Blake Emmons also got a start there. Somewhere I have a
photo of a young Tevor Veitch with my brother at the Bunkhouse.
And I bought my Martin guitar from Les. It was standing behind
the office door. I paid $25. Lots of random memories....
But Gipp was more associated with the Sequel coffeehouse, just up
Granville from the Bunkhouse, which was on Davie.
The Sequel was managed by Al Pilgrim and owned by the Bartlett
brothers who also had a Pizza chain. The Irish Rovers played there
early on.
Then there was the Inquisition on Seymour, with bigger names, run
by Howie Bateman. And there was ... but enough already.
Just trying for a western balance here...
