The texas chainsaw acoustic hour airs Saturdays from 0900-1100 on KWVA, =

via Real Audio at=20
www.gladstone.uoregon.edu. The host may be contacted at =

From the mailbag...
1. Dear texas chainsaw acoustic hour guy:
I really like your program. I especially like it when you have a =
substitute host.
LK
2. Hey Tex:
You really haven't ever been to Texas, have you? =20
=20
PD
=20
3. Chaindude:
One of my favorite things is getting up on Saturday mornings, =
making myself a big glass of fresh =20
squeezed orange juice and listening to your program. One of my =
other favorite things is cutting my wrists
with razor blades. I am not sure which is more distructive. =20
=20
DD
Ember Swift/Cheap Drunk/Permanent Marker
A young Canadian of boundless enthusiasm and musical ideas. Musically, =
this one is all over the map, often in the course of a single song. Not =
for the faint of heart or the Burl Ives set.
k.d. Lang/Pullin' Back The Reins/Absolute Torch And Twang
Ms. Lang at her finest...those arrangements
Jacinthe Trudeau/Berceuse/Echo
Needed a long track to facilitate show transition and my need to be out =
of the studio con mucho haste...Canadian fiddle music which has its =
moments.
Arnie Naiman+Chris Coole/Sleepyhead/5 Strings Attached, Volume 2
EVERYBODY should be playing from this disc...yes, banjos can make one =
feel good, even if one is city folk. Can you say darn near the ultimate =
in good taste? I knew that you could.
Zubot+Dawson/Ultraman/Tractor Parts: Further Adventures In Strang
instrumental wizardry and playfulness. PLAY THIS DISC REPEATEDLY AND =
LOUD (oops, got carried away with the loud part). THIS GOES BEYOND =
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
=20
D.G. Biggs/Bad Days/Biggsongs
Hopefully scooping most everyone on this one...CANCON from a secret =
source...Haven't listened to the whole disc yet (yeh, so what's new?) =
but have found the feel to be very nice...contemporary somewhere between =
folk and pop radio (death zone 2000?) material, very nicely arranged and =
produced
Charlie Sohmer/Murder In The Air/The Kiss Before The Calm
taking care of one of our own...this is a warm and friendly disc
Oona+Corbin/Only This Moment/Only This Moment
something that suggests celtic, new age, classical and folk
Dave Woodhead/Bounce/Sweets And Conundrums
a listener asked if I was playing two tracks at once...guess some yanks =
just don't understand good Canadian music. Still a fave instrumental =
disc
Jim Graham/The Sea/Mezcolanza
a brief, yet subtly elegant guitar piece
Jesse Winchester/Tell Me Why You Like Roosevelt/Learn To Love It
"that's why I like Pierre Trudeau"
David Wiffin/Coast To Coast Fever/Coast To Coast Fever
a piece of vinyl from the past
Bruce Cockburn/All The Diamonds In The World/Circles In The Stream
more vinyl from when Bruce was fab...wait, that was someone else.
Paddy Tutty/The Dancers of Stanton Drew/The Roving Jewel
While they may never quite match the June Taylor Dancers, the music from =
this disc is far better...nice traditional music
Doug Cox/While My Guitar Gently Weeps/Bone Bottle Brass or Steel
Canadian reso player checks in with a pretty piece of Beatles
Scruj MacDuhk/The Road To Canso/The Road To Canso
most recent arrival...stuck with an instrumental because I figured that =
the FCC would not find anything objectionable
Aengus Finnan/Sweet Evelina/Fools Gold
several bright moments on this disc from a northern neighbor
Corbin Keep/Time In A Bottle/Solo Cello And Voice
Yes, it is THAT "Time In A Bottle." Really dragging out the nags now. =
Very cool version (solo cello and voice) from Oona McOuat's sometimes =
cellist. Some inventive work on this disc.
Asza/Madly Riding The Heavenly Horse/Vancouver Music Sampler
Okay, I am a sucker for pipa. Glorious blend of world sounds
Orchid Ensemble/Meeting In The Yurt/Heartland
Okay, I am a sucker for songs about yurts...More fine music from the =
East
