Funny Girls and Dynamic Divas

Celebrate 20 years of Sistering



To celebrate 20 years of helping Toronto's low income and homeless
women, Sistering, a United
Way member agency,  is hosting an evening of Funny Girls and Dynamic
Divas, 8:00 pm on
Thursday, June 28, 2001 at the popular Bamboo Nightclub, 312 Queen
Street West.

This exciting evening will be hosted by celebrated Canadian comedian
Sandra Shamas and feature
an incredible line up of Toronto's top female talent. Gracing the stage
will be
multi-instrumentalist, singer and composer Jane Siberry, Canada's
foremost lady of the blues
Salome Bey, and folk/country rock legend Sylvia Tyson. Sharing the
spotlight will be Martha
Chaves, The Delightful Divas, Ali Eisner, Diane Flacks, Laura Hubert,
Turtle Gals, Sook-Yin
Lee, Donna Makeda, Shoshana Sperling and Lori Yates. Performances will
be backed by the ever
popular all female HotHouse Band and the evening will close out with DJ
Denise Benson, voice of
"Mental Chatter" on CKLN.

For the past 20 years, Sistering has been struggling to meet the needs
of Toronto's homeless
and low-income women. As a charitable, community-based agency, efforts
are taken to assist
women in taking greater control over their lives. Sistering provides hot
meals, showers and
laundry facilities, clothing, access to health care professionals,
counseling, support groups,
housing services and referrals to appropriate agencies.

The women served are homeless, living in extreme poverty, socially
isolated, suffering from
chronic physical and mental health issues, and struggling with the
devastating impact of
violence and abuse.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door and available through
