[mplpost] Cracked hands

Greetings.

Being a dairy farmer as well as a musician has provided me with ample opportunities to experiment with various compounds to -- (a)attempt to prevent & (b) treat -- deep, hideous and painful skin cracks on fingers and hands.

Nothing like splitting a finger tip while working on a frozen manure spreader -- washing 60 udders with hot chlorine solution -- then going to the house and sliding the aforementioned split down the high E string on my guitar.

Those are the moments when my music can move even me to tears.

Anyway... I am quite familiar with Bag Balm and do not like it. Aside from the obnoxious odour the greasiness is excessive.

I would, however, suggest folks try the following:

Dr. Naylor's (the makers of Bag Balm) also manufacture Teat Dilators. Now before anybody starts getting nervous or squeamish - read on.

Never mind the dilators - just take a small amount of the sterile paste, in which they are packed, and rub it into your skin. I have found it to be the best remedy yet.

The paste is a mixture of bees wax and oil of cloves. It rubs right in and I think it smells kind of nice to boot.

This stuff is available from Ag Co-op stores and farm supply companies all over.

So there you have it, for what it is worth.

Best regards,
Lorne Clarke
