[mplpost] Re: CJRT programs loss - more contact info

I'm adding CdnFolk to this response as they didn't get Derek Andrews' post that CJRT-FM in Toronto is dropping long standing folk and blues shows and relatively newer world music Saturday afternoon shows after this Saturday (his post is at the end). This is a huge loss for not only Toronto (and areas reached by satellite and cable), but also for Canadian music in general for the exposure given. (I'm not on MapleWorld)

Still in shock also. I agree we should all use our contact lists to get the word out and encourage all affected to contact the station.

Thanks Vicki for finding the President and CEO email. In case you are giving this info to someone who will not be responding via email, here is some more contact info:

(416) 595-0404 (general office number in Toronto)
(416) 595-9413 - fax number
finearts@cjrt.fm - seems to be general email contact (use the one Vicki found - camroux@cjrt.fm for President and CEO Chuck Camroux)

The website is http://www.cjrt.fm and, as Vicki pointed out, has no mention of this change.

CJRT will have a booth at the Computer Fest (at CNE automotive bldg, http://www.compfest.com ) this weekend, so be sure to stop by if you are attending. They will also be at a street fair (Eglinton and Oriole Parkway area) this Saturday (see CJRT website for location and times).

If the case, please emphasize that you are/ were a donor as well as listener.

As a donor, I was surveyed a couple of weeks ago about perhaps going to jazz and/or classical format, but thought it was just during the week. I said as long as they left the Saturday afternoon shows intact, I would continue to support.

Background (off the top of my head, dates not sure, just as I've already forwarded to friends):

CJRT is 91.1pm and the Saturday shows being cancelled are
Absolutely Folk noon- 2pm (Cate Friesen)
Music Without Borders 2-3pm (Kai Black)
Blues Hours, 3-5 pm (John Valenteyn, and source of news below)

All shows support local and visiting performers with gig announcements, interviews and music play. All are enthusiastic and informative about the music, not just playing recordings without comment. All include a high percentage of Canadian music.

Think the folk show (including the previous one started by Joe Lewis) have been on the air more than 25 years, started when CJRT was still run by Ryerson. The blues show evolved more than 10 years ago I think, and the world music show started over 2 years ago, same time as Cate took over the folk show.

The station is on airwave, satellite (ExpressVu) and cable (I pick up on Rogers for clearer signal), so it has a wide reach.

Loss of the three programs would represent a huge decrease in these programs even in a city as rich in noncommercial stations.
