Night Sun
|
Originally from Iqaluit, NWT, Night Sun relocated to Kingston, ON a couple of years ago. When they moved south, what was originally the folk oriented duo of Ellen Hamilton (lead vocals and acoustic guitar) and Chris Coleman (mando, clarinet, tin whistle, Irish flute), added Bonnie Dawson on accordion, Adam Hodge on electric bass and Les Casson (percussion). The southern exposure and added band members has produced a slightly edgier and more up-tempo sound. However, Night Sun's northern roots are still very much a part of their music. Main lyricist Hamilton's writing draws heavily on the Arctic environment for inspiration: rocky hills, snowmobiles, patient hunters and, of course, the night sun itself. Night Sun's music shows musical influences that range from Baffin Island to the Mississippi Delta, with a touch of Celtic and Cajun mixed in for good measure.
