| It's not for nothing a review
in the Canadian Folk Music Bulletin called Tanglefoot "simply one
of the best live bands I've ever seen." From inauspicious beginnings
as friends who enjoyed a common interest in traditional music, Tanglefoot
has grown to become one of the country's outstanding folk groups.
Fresh, poignant songwriting in a style that hints at Celtic/ Maritime/ French-Canadian influences figures into Tanglefoot's appeal, but it's their powerfully energetic live performances that make an immediate impression. Superb vocal harmonies and a big, full-throated accompaniment combine to make every concert a thoroughly engaging experience. Joe Grant, on fiddle, guitar and banjo, lives in Norwood, Ontario and is the only remaining original member of the group. Al Parrish, who now plays a brand-new, hand-carved Bartlett bass, lives in Toronto. Also from Toronto is piano player Rob Ritchie (white shirt, short hair), Tanglefoot's newest inmate. Francis Skrzeszewski lives in Peterborough Ontario, and plays Laskin tenor mandolin, tenor banjo, guitar, harmonica and a hand-built Honest Frankie mandolin (serial #1). Steve Ritchie, from Owen Sound, plays guitar and avoids getting his hair cut. |
