Suzanne McDermott has
a rich background with experience in diverse musical genres. Born in Bryn
Mawr, Pennsylvania, she gave her first public performance at the legendary
Main Point at the age of fifteen. Her involvement with The Main Point was
a fundamental influence on her songwriting because it provided her with
years of exposure to a steady stream of renowned "first generation"
singer-songwriters. Later, Suzanne became a member of the McCabe's Guitar
Shop community in Santa Monica, California where, in addition to performing,
she produced a series of 20th century chamber music concerts and designed
the McCabe's T-shirt.
Along with her activity as a singer-songwriter,
Suzanne has worked in classical music publishing, international chamber
music festivals including Bruno Giuranna's Asolo Music Festival, and experimental
music. She was secretary to Sarah Vaughan for two years and served as a
United States delegate to the Congo by managing a group of jazz musicians
She is also an accomplished painter and wrote, directed and produced a
play with music at the Asolo State Theater in Florida.
Blessed with a warm, clear voice and innate
musicianship, Suzanne's performances combine an impressive collection of
her own captivating, intelligent songs and an eclectic assortment of covers.
Her stage presence creates an immediate rapport with her audience. She
has shared the stage with David Amram, Gore Vidal, Dori Previn, Bill Morrissey
and others.
