More
than two decades have passed since Paddy Tutty became immersed in the world
of traditional folk music. Drawing from the musical traditions of Britain,
Ireland and North America, she presents songs up to several centuries old
with immediacy and relevance. A concert with Paddy Tutty might include
songs of the gypsies, a lament for the forest, love songs, French bourrées,
ballads of prairie life, seasonal songs, and sagas of wizardry. Whether
she sings of passion, tragedy, empowerment, magic, kinship with the land,
or the moral victories of the poor, Ms. Tutty always brings warmth and
humour to her concerts. Her repertoire of songs from traditional roots
is enhanced with music by some of our era's best songwriters, and with
dance tunes from many world cultures.
Paddy Tutty has toured extensively as a
solo performer, accompanying herself primarily with guitar and fretted
dulcimer. As a recording artist, she has released four albums on her independent
label Prairie Druid Music. Canadian musician Ian Tamblyn produced the latest
discs In the Greenwood and Prairie Druid, where a richly textured sound
is created with double bass, percussion, whistle, hammered dulcimer and
keyboards adding to Paddy's vocals, guitar, fretted dulcimer, fiddle, harpsichord
and concertina.
