Arabic and Greek music ensemble. The music highlights layered, winding
vocals, instrumental excursions and driving hand percussion. Maza Mezé's
sets shimmy to a climax with Middle Eastern dance.
Maza Mezé is made up of some of Toronto's most eclectic and innovative musicians, all of whom have various "world" music interests. "Maza" (Arabic) and "Mezé" (Greek) have the same meaning in both languages - an assortment of appetizers. Maza Mezé serves up traditional tunes from the Middle East, Greece and Asia Minor with generous helpings of other worldly spices swirled into the mix. The ensemble exists to share joy and unity with their audience. There is a "smaller version" of Maza Mezé, Doula, whcih also has a recording at COMA. |
