| Martinique has been a musician
and singer all her life. At the age of 5 she was composing her own
harmonies. Three years later she won her first singing competition.
She took up the piano at the age of 6 and went on to study piano formally
for the next 12 years. Martinique then began 7 years of intensive
vocal training, during which she was fortunate enough to study with some
of the greatest singing teachers in the Pacific Northwest.
When she was just 9 years old, Martinique
wrote her first song. By the age of 16, she had caught the writing
"bug" and could be found scribbling down song ideas every spare
moment. She realized then that her future would be music.
Following her high school graduation, she
began her professional career playing in clubs, bars and piano lounges
in her hometown of Vancouver. When she first started out, Martinique
had to lie about her age (as she was under-age). By her early 20's,
Martinique was a sought after pianist/vocalist. Over the years she
has supplemented her musical knowledge with a variety of music courses,
including jazz improvisation.
In addition to her work in the finest piano
lounges, Martinique was also the featured vocalist in various show bands,
which work resulted in her first professional recording - an EP.
She then went on a 3 month tour of Japan playing a variety of venues.
But even with all her performing and recording,
Martinique's love of songwriting never died. She continued to write
regularly and recorded several demos of her best songs. One of these
demos resulted in her winning a local songwriting contest which led to
a co-writing gig with Peter McCann, a very successful staff song writer
with EMI. The resultant song, "One Hell at a Time", was
later published by EMI.
Martinique's new CD, "Tangled Web
of Cool", is the culmination of her musical work to date. She
is very excited about this new release and hopes that its music and words
will capture the imagination of a new world of listeners.
