For the past six years Mad
Love has been performing, writing and recording songs that embody the passion
and intimacy of personal experience. Their music starts with what could
be called traditional folk music - a mixture of Celtic, bluegrass and blues
- and blends these sounds into a delightful instrumental mixture, around
which they rap their sweet harmonies. The result is a stunning sound rife
with complex textures and subtle vocal nuances.
The release of their first CD, Knockin'
the Myth, introduced Mad Love to the folk scene across Canada and the U.S.
The CD has received national airplay on CBC Radio and on campus and community
stations that range from California to Boston and Cuba to New Zealand.
Mad Love has opened for Alison Krauss,
The Corrs, Loreena McKennitt, Spirit of the West, Figgy Duff and Tom Robinson.
"The content of the lyric is a fascinating
mix of contemporary topics with a trad feel. The master stroke that unites
their album and forges its bold brash character is the Vanderstoops' passionate
delivery of serious lyrics on uptempo selections..." Dirty Linen,
August/September '94, #54.
