Jazz
guitarist Kevin Barrettt’s distinctive sound has graced the recordings
and stage shows of numerous Canadian acts. Canadian greats from jazz singers
Vivienne Williams and Julie Michaels, to dub poet Lillian Allen and country
singer Cindy Church have been inspired by and incorporated his unique sound.
Kevin’s busy career as accompanist, producer and musical director took a turn in 1995. Kevin began hosting an open jam at the “College Street Bar”. For 4 years the Kevin Barrett Trio kept Toronto’s best players hopping, meanwhile developing a polished repertoire of original compositions, jazz and Latin standards. The resulting CD, “JAM” was released in 1999 to national airplay and high acclaim. In 2000, Barrett stepped into his own as
a jazz composer. After a secluded retreat Kevin emerged with a stack of
original compositions.Ten pieces were chosen and recorded. The resulting
album, “Share the Wealth”, features beautiful, ethereal melodies that sink
into groove, and Kevin’s unique sound and accomplished technique. “Share
the Wealth” is to be released in 2002 and features some of Toronto’s
finest players including:
Kevin Barrettt, guitar
Kevin's first CD, JAM, was released in January, 1999. It features appearances by five guests who represent the best of Toronto’s jazz and contemporary music scenes: Lina Allemano (trumpet & fluglehorn), Doug Banwell (soprano sax), Bill Brennan (keyboards), Mark Duggan (vibraphone), and Vivienne Williams (vocals). The disc’s twelve tracks include a range of standards as well as originals by Barrett, Brennan, Duggan, Williams and Shannon, as well as Ottawa guitarist/composer Roddy Ellias.
