| Kathryn started her first band
at the age of 17, when she was also an actor in TV, film and stage. Though
she had a thriving career in both worlds, acting soon began to take a backseat.
Over the last 15 years she's been performing and releasing her own music
while becoming well known as a "vocalist of choice" for many other artists,
film scores and TV/radio jingles, something which Kathryn loves doing for
the fast pace, sheer absurdity and, oh yes, the residual cheques!
She is also a regular guest artist with Orchestra London (Ontario), in evening-at-the-pops concerts, including her own songs, backed by the symphony. Some of the other artists she has worked with: Dan Bryk, Julian Austin, Lennie Gallant, Grindig, Damhnait Doyle, Change Of Heart, Meryn Cadell, King Cobb Steelie, Frozen Ghost, Jr. Gone Wild, David Wall, Andy Stochansky, Paul Myers, Kurt Swinghammer, Paul Brandt, Bruce Guthro, Graeme Kirkland, Tory Cassis, Ken Myhr, Ron Sexsmith, Don Ross, Rebecca Jenkins, Big Sugar, Bobby Wiseman, Moxy Fruvous, John Alcorn, George Koller, Victoria Shaw, Lori Yates, Melanie Doane, Ray Montford, Chris Staig, David Ramsden, Devon, Micah Barnes, Lorraine Segato, CBC Radio special concerts... the list goes on. From 1998 to early 2000 she took a break from her solo career to tour the world as backup singer with Warner reprise artist "Esthero". This was just the break she needed to refuel for her next big project, her second solo album "My Little Flame", the follow-up to her well received debut solo album "Every Lurid Detail." "My Little Flame" was produced by Thomas Ryder Payne, primary songwriter/guitarist in the band Joydrop (Tommy Boy). According to Kathryn: "Thom Payne could build a small aircraft with things you leave lying around, before you even get back from the store." The album's 10 self-penned songs feature string arrangements by Peter Brennan of Orchestra London, performances by Paul Brennan, George Koller, Kevin Fox and Tim Bovaconti with a guest appearance by Ron Sexsmith. "My Little Flame" is a sophisticated, beautiful piece, thoughtfully envisioned and crafted. If "Every Lurid Detail" was moody, "My Little Flame" is "movie", says Kathryn. Last time out, critics agreed Kathryn was the real thing: "Amazing vocal talent and a penchant for fine songwriting, crackling with pent-up sexual energy." -Network. "Dark and brooding numbers that allow her to make the most of her gorgeous, smoky voice. Simply mesmerising."-Chart. "Not for those looking for charm or cuteness. Grand in scope, stylish in the delivery, gutsy in substance, an A&R rep's dream come true." -RPM Weekly. With any justice, My Little Flame will clinch the deal in assuring a place for Kathryn Rose in the upper echelons of Canadian singer/songwriters, at home and internationally. "When I think of other guitar players on your music, I feel like you're my girlfriend %$!#-ing someone else." -Luke Doucet of Veal, when scheduling did not permit for him to appear on My Little Flame. Described as "the Dark Queen of Subtlety who could make Mary Had A Little Lamb sound like the saddest song ever" (songwriter Brent Setterington), Kathryn has developed a style she likes to call 'Drop & Roll', with the aim to 'disturb the peace at the quietest of decibels.' A chanteuse in wolf's clothing, her music is impartial to sending out comforting and discomforting vibes in the same breath. She soothes and seduces, then chills the bones. "I follow your voice into rocky shores. Better tie me to the mast" (audience comment). She hopes you like "My Little Flame". Also
available: her solo debut "Every Lurid Detail", and for the very curious,
check out "The Binds Of Blood" by Wind May Do Damage, Kathryn's previous
