| Heather McLeod, is a
francophone quebecoise from Montreal, Québec where the mixture of
cultures and language provide a rich background for art to flourish. Heather's
music reflects this heritage. In university, Heather thought about studying
Jazz Voice, but developed a rapport with a Classical Music professor and
studied theory and composition. Her Classical guitar teacher had a love
for the Flamenco style and passed that style on to Heather.
While a student, Heather formed a trio with clarinet and upright bass to perform as buskers to attract an audience, they chose jazz standards (Cole Porter, Fats Waller, Benny Goodman et al, etc.) and transformed the songs into jug band tunes filled with cultural twists mirroring the rich ethnicity around them.. Heather's solo effort Funny Thing is a dreamy tapestry of styles, a reflection of her musical journeys. Her newest recording, Graffiti Love Song, is a delicious, latin inflected recording with the band Picante adding a spicey touch to the mix. |
