Canajen Cajun goes to the Opera with "the most astounding voice in
the entire galaxy" - John Griffin, Montreal Gazette
Daisy DeBolt was part of one of Canada's legendary folk duos - Fraser & DeBolt - which toured the folk festival circuit in the '60s and '70s. Recently, she was featured in a CBC television documentary on Adrienne Clarkson Presents, and tracks from her last album Soulstalking still receive airplay on CBC Radio's "Roots & Wings". Singer/song-writer Ian Tamblyn calls Daisy "marvelous and eccentric", combining "the blues, Edith Piaf, country and opera all in one." The March 4, 1998 issue of The Record (their Canadian Music Week special issue) highlights the Fraser & DeBolt albums on their list of "bygone LP's that deserve to be released on compact disc." F&deB were referred to as "one of the most remarkable vocal duos in Canadian pop music history." Fans and collectors do not despair - someone may yet find a way to convince CBS to re-issue the albums or at least allow someone else to..." Daisy DeBolt's latest release, I Can is what she calls her tribute to Frank Zappa and Igor Stravinsky. I Can is a folkloric jazz album with Daisy DeBolt's locomotive voice at the helm. The musicians involved are among Canada's top instrumentalists, all virtuosi in their own right. There are no holds barred on this album. There are dueling Tubas in a lullaby march, blazing Accordions to scare you, traditional instruments whaling away ...there are songs of deep healing, deep love, lost love, of rivers and hyways and raucous polka reggae dance pieces. There are many Daisys in this 72 minute musical diary. Her repertoire spans folk, blues, country, gospel, jazz, opera, polka reggae....Her reputation as a stunt vocalist is in full sail on this album with her big band sound. Produced by Second City's Musical Director Bob Derkach, I Can is released on Daisy's label DeBolt Productions with John Switzer (who produced Soulstalking, Daisy's previous album) as Associate Producer.
