Christine Graves
Christine GravesSome say it is of the utmost importance to understand music industry workings full before attempting to knock on doors of a music career. This is probably true if you want to avoid a black eye and a bloody nose, but if you want to play music... just play music.

That is exactly what Christine Graves did when she released a recording before more than a handful of open stage goers knew her name. Recorded and produced by Ian Lefeuvre this album opened doors. The Ottawa XPress calls it "one of the most impressive local releases of the past year..." and piece by piece has had considerable airplay on CBC and a variety of campus radio stations. The music is deceptively folky, but definately intimate. Christine creates songs that seem to creep into the listeners conciousness like smoke under the door.

The songs have been influenced by Christine's experiences living and travelling all over Canada and voyages to South America and Africa. She was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, into a musical family; playing and listening to music were part of every day. Singing and writing became passions during highschool. Wherever she was, Christine would visit open stages, but it was Ottawa's songwriter subculture that got her to record her own work. Now she is living in the country an hour west of the city.

"...clean, simple and well balanced...and with this, her debut album, she has obviously settled into a comfortable niche, almost an intimate club setting, to work her matter-of-fact vocals..." RPM, January 96

"...creates an intimate atmosphere, focussing on matters close to the heart..."
The Ottawa Citizen, May 96
