Cate
Friesen takes a giant step into new territory with her latest CD, Joy's
Disorder. At the centre is the songwriting -- lyrical and intelligent.
Cate's voice runs a gamut of emotion, effortlessly balancing adventure
with intimacy. All couched in a fresh sound, thanks to producer David Travers-Smith,
known for his work with Jane Siberry, Veda Hille and Lennie Gallant.
Her previous release Wayward (wide-eyed music/Festival Records) "is a giant step away from the first album, and one totally unaffected by the sophomore flutters...a cohesive, finely focused piece of work, without giving up diversity." (The Toronto Star) Produced by John Switzer (Jane Siberry, the Waltons, Fat Man Waving) and backed by her band and many special guests, Wayward has a pop sensibility combined with the crucial element of folk--she tells a damn good story. Cate's debut album, Tightrope Waltz chronicles her exodus from the prairies to the city, earning her a place as a ex-patriot prairie artist.
